"We first took out ShelterCare coverage when we adopted a new puppy, INDY. Just one month later my son brought home a Bulldog puppy named "BK". Knowing the financial risks that are involved with owning a pet, I suggested that he consider getting pet insurance for "BK". He chose to get coverage with ShelterCare for "BK".

Just a few days after signing up with ShelterCare, "BK" and Indy were playing in the yard together and "BK" began to limp. We just thought "BK" had pulled or sprained his leg. However, when it did not get better, we visited our vet. X-rays revealed that his front leg bones had been dislocated and sent us to see a surgeon. Surgery was required to reset the leg bones, requiring screws to set the bones. Also, the main ligament around these leg bones had been stretched and the surgeon had to replace this ligament with an artificial one to stabilize and support the leg bones.

There was a lot of aftercare required for "BK" including weekly x-rays, cast changes and related recovery expenses as well. We were quite amazed at ShelterCare's Service. ShelterCare covered a large amount of the costs and we hadn't even made a single payment yet! This all happened within days of us signing up for the new insurance! Without ShelterCare, my son would have had to take out a loan to cover the surgical expense for "BK". "
